    This is general information, not safety or installation advice. Follow the manufacturer’s own instructions for mounting and placement, and take any question about a specific staircase to the gate’s maker or a qualified installer.

    Updated August 2026: ASTM F1004-25 became mandatory on 19 July 2026 and bans openings inside a gate that let a pet through on its own. Certification wording has moved too. The Cardinal gate’s real installed price is $139.90 or $179.85 rather than $99.95 once banister clamps are counted, and Regalo’s published width range has a one-inch hole in it.

    Buy the Cardinal Gates Stairway Special SS-30 if a staircase is the reason you are shopping for a baby gate. It is the only one of these three whose maker approves it for the top of the stairs, and Cardinal Gates prices it at $99.95. Budget more than that: the banister clamps most staircases need are sold separately at $39.95 per side, which puts a realistic install at $139.90 or $179.85.

    To Sell a Baby Gate After 19 July 2026, It Cannot Have a Pet Door

    The federal rule moved this year and almost no product page has caught up. The Consumer Product Safety Commission published its final Safety Standard for Gates and Enclosures on 1 April 2026, effective 19 July 2026, and it incorporates ASTM F1004-25, approved 1 December 2025, in place of the F1004-22 version that came before.

    The substantive change is one new performance requirement. Section 6.9 says expansion gates and expandable enclosures “shall not include any features or openings within the gate that allow for unassisted pet entry or egress.” The concern behind it is a head-entrapment hazard and a climbing foothold. In plain terms: the little swinging pet door built into the bottom of a gate is out.

    Gates with pet doors have not vanished from the market, and spare-parts listings for them are still live. North States still lists a $4.25 hardware package described as being for a “Superyard, Petyard Gray Wall Mount Kit, Extra Wide Gate with Small Pet Door.” Whether any specific model is in scope of the rule is the CPSC’s determination and not mine. What a buyer can do is look at the gate itself: if there is an opening in it a cat could use, that feature is one the current standard prohibits, and it is worth asking the seller which version of F1004 the unit was tested to.

    To Read a Certification Seal, Start With the Year It Was Renamed

    All three of these makers claim the same program, and all three name it differently. The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association renamed itself the Baby Safety Alliance in June 2025, and its mark is now the Baby Safety Alliance Verified Seal rather than a certification. The organisation says products under it are re-tested annually, and an August 2025 announcement put the programme at more than 3,200 products across 30-plus categories, adding car seats as a new category that month.

    Does the Certification Seal Guarantee Current Testing?

    The certification seal does not guarantee current testing, because three makers use three different labels for the same programme and not one of them uses the word the programme uses today. None of this means a gate is unsafe. It means the seal on the box is a weaker signal than it looks, because you cannot tell from the wording which year’s testing it reflects. The federal text and the programme are worth reading directly: 16 CFR Part 1239 and the Baby Safety Alliance both publish plainly.

    To Trust a Width Range, Check It for Holes

    The Regalo Easy Step is sometimes described as fitting “29 to 38.5 inches.” Regalo’s own listing copy does not say that. It says the gate expands to fit openings between 29 and 34 inches and between 35 and 38.5 inches, and it adds, in the same listing, that the gate will not fit an opening between 34 and 35 inches without an additional 4-inch extension.

    Measure your opening before you order. A one-inch dead zone in the middle of an advertised range is the kind of detail that turns into a return, and it is printed by the maker rather than hidden. Regalo’s own website could not be read for this update, for a reason worth stating: regalobaby.com fails TLS certificate validation from here, so the figures above come from Regalo’s product copy as published at Walmart. If Regalo’s site says something different, Regalo’s site wins.

    To Mount a Baby Gate on a Banister, Budget for Clamps

    The Stairway Special SS-30 is $99.95 on Cardinal Gates’ own store. Aluminium fits 27 to 42.5 inches, wood fits 29 to 49.5 inches, both stand 29.5 inches tall, and the gate can be mounted at angles up to 30 degrees for stud alignment. It is hardware mounting only. There is no pressure option to choose by mistake, which on a staircase is the whole argument for it.

    What the price does not include is on the same page: “Banister / Installation clamps shown in photo are sold separately.” Cardinal’s Regular Gate Installation Kit is $39.95 and contains two square clamps, one round clamp and a 32-inch wood adapter. Cardinal’s own kit page states you need one kit for each side of the gate being attached to a banister. Most staircases put a newel post on at least one side.

    Skip this if your gate is going in a plain drywall doorway between two studs. You would be paying $55 more than the Regalo for a mounting method that opening does not require.

    To Keep the Regalo Where Regalo Approves, Stay Off the Top Step

    The Easy Step Walk Thru is $44.99, stands 30 inches tall, and ships with four pressure-mount spindle rods and four wall cups, so it can be pressure-mounted or wall-mounted. Regalo rates it for children 6 to 24 months. The warning on it is unambiguous and printed by Regalo: to prevent falls, never use at top of stairs.

    That warning is why this gate is the named loser here despite being the cheapest and the most widely bought. It is not a bad product. It is the product most likely to be put somewhere its own maker says it must not go, and the second-most-likely to be bought for an opening it turns out not to fit.

    Skip this if the opening you are gating is at the top of a staircase, or measures between 34 and 35 inches. Both of those are the maker’s own words, not a judgement call.

    To Enclose an Area Instead of Blocking One, Buy Panels Not a Gate

    The Toddleroo by North States Superyard Classic is $59.99 on North States’ own site, reduced from $76.99. Six plastic panels, each 26 inches high and 32 inches wide, enclosing up to 18.5 square feet freestanding, indoors or out. There is no wall tension and no anchor, which is why it travels and why it is not a stair gate. North States does not market it as one.

    A separate $24.99 wall mount kit turns it into a fixed extra-wide barrier fitting openings from 38.5 inches to over 16 feet, and comes with wall hinges, screws and mounting connectors. That is the configuration worth knowing about, because a 16-foot span is something neither of the other two gates can approach at any price.

    Worth knowing on the record: the CPSC has no open recall on any of these three products. North States has appeared in the recall record before, with a 1995 repair recall covering roughly 70,000 Superyard enclosures and 6,000 extension kits made between 8 November 1994 and 17 October 1995, over locking posts that could pull loose and choke a child, and a 2022 recall of Toddleroo cabinet latches, a different product. The 1995 notice is still on the CPSC’s site, and it applied only to that eleven-month production window.

    Skip this if you need a walk-through door. Stepping over six connected panels a dozen times a day is how a barrier ends up permanently open.

    To Price a Baby Gate Install Rather Than the Sticker, Use This Table

    Sticker price is the wrong number here, and not because of any ratio. It is the wrong number because two of these three gates need a part their own maker sells separately before they do the job you bought them for. Every figure below comes from the maker’s own store.

    The line that matters is the third one. A banister on both sides takes the Cardinal gate from $99.95 to $179.85, which is $79.90 of clamps against a $99.95 gate, or 80 percent on top of the sticker. That is not a hidden fee. It is on Cardinal’s own page, in one sentence, under a photograph of the clamps.

    To Rule Out a Baby Gate in One Line, Read the Mounting Type

    Four things end the decision quickly. A pressure-mounted gate offered for the top of a staircase, when the maker’s own warning says otherwise. An opening outside the stated range, or inside the gap in it. A freestanding enclosure bought to do a stair gate’s job. And a gate with an opening in it for a pet, which the current standard prohibits.

    None of that requires trusting me. It requires reading the mounting line on the box and measuring the opening.     The name has changed: Skip Hop’s own site calls it the Duo Weekender, and the “Signature” has gone. And skiphop.com no longer serves its own product pages at all. The product URL redirects to a Skip Hop brand page on carters.com, which states that Skip Hop joined the Carter’s family of brands in 2017.

    That matters for the third-party evidence. BabyGearLab does have a review titled Skip Hop Duo Signature, but it is a $65 bag in the separate diaper-bags-for-men lineup, scored 5 for storage and ease of use, 6 for comfort, 6 for quality and 5 for style. Different bag, different price, different test field — not evidence about the Duo Weekender covered here.

    Skip this if you want both hands free. This is a tote with a shoulder strap and a set of stroller hooks. It is not a backpack, and no amount of packing cubes changes that. If the answer is that you would rather wear the baby than the bag, the Ergobaby, BabyBjorn and Tula carriers scored on wearer back support and hip positioning is the comparison to read instead.

    Higher Rated Than Anything Else Here, and Not Sold by Ju-Ju-Be

    BabyGearLab scores the B.F.F. 80 out of 100 and ranks it third of fourteen, on published weights: storage 7.0 at 35 percent, quality 9.0 at 35 percent, ease of use 8.0 at 30 percent, and style 7.0 at zero. It records the bag at 14 by 12 by 6.5 inches, 2.8 pounds, two insulated pockets, machine washable, included accessories “None listed”, and a list price of $195.

    BabyGearLab lists the price at $195. Ju-Ju-Be says nothing, because the bag is not on its site. Every dimension and the weight in the row above come from BabyGearLab too, for the same reason.

    On the merits it is the lightest bag here at 2.8 pounds and the only one that converts between carry styles. It still comes last, 21.5 points behind the Dagne Dover, and the whole of that gap is the two axes about what a company publishes and sells. That is the named loser of this comparison, and it lost on availability rather than on design.

    None of these three bags carries an open recall. The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s record for Skip Hop covers crib mobiles in 2016, nightlight soothers in 2017, convertible high chairs in 2018 and again in 2019, and Silver Lining Cloud activity gyms in 2023. No diaper bag from Skip Hop, Dagne Dover or Ju-Ju-Be appears in it.

    Skip this if you want a warranty you can claim. Buying a model its maker has stopped listing puts you outside that maker’s own channel from day one, whatever the reseller’s return window says.

    Fewer Axes, Same Answer: The Tally Without the Availability Column

    Suppose you think being sold by the maker is not worth 20 points. Fair position, especially if you shop Amazon anyway. Take the axis out and spread its 20 points across the other five in proportion, which makes them 25, 25, 18.75, 18.75 and 12.5.

    The B.F.F. gains the most, as you would expect, and still finishes last. The Skip Hop still wins by 20 points. There is no tie here to break, under either weighting, which is why this page does not hand you a coin-flip verdict at the end.

    Less Certain Than the Table Looks: Three Numbers I Could Not Confirm

    Dagne Dover’s individual product pages build their price in the browser, so a plain read of the Onyx and Dune pages returns no price at all. The $250 in this page is what the collection listing prints. If you see a different number on the product page, the product page is the one to trust.

    The B.F.F. has no maker page, so its price, its dimensions and its weight all trace to a single source, BabyGearLab. One source is one source. It is corroborated by nothing here.

    And neither Skip Hop nor Ju-Ju-Be publishes a capacity in litres, so two of the three figures in the adjusted-estimate column of the volume table are estimates derived from a single calibration against a competitor’s bag. Useful for ranking. Not a number to plan a hospital bag around.

    Ju-Ju-Be may put the B.F.F. back on its store. If it does, the first axis flips from 0 to 10 and the tally moves 20 points, which would put it second. Check the store page before you take my word for it. More of these matchups live in our baby gear category.

    Buy the Grace & Stella Bronze under-eye patches. They take the five-axis tally below at 74.5 out of 100 against 52.0 for the $75 Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Firming Hydra-Gel Eye Patches and 32.0 for the $115 111SKIN Rose Gold Illuminating Eye Mask. The Bronze label runs to 17 ingredients, puts niacinamide fourth and caffeine tenth, and carries no fragrance material and no denatured alcohol. Grace & Stella’s own store will sell you 48 pairs for $45, which is 94 cents a pair. The 111SKIN box works out at $14.38 a pair. Same shelf, 15.3 times the price per pair.

    Every one of these products is sold on the name of an ingredient. So four of the five axes below are about what each company is prepared to print, and one is about price. Reasons for the weights sit in the first column, because a weight you cannot see is not a weight, it is a preference.

    The Grace & Stella column in full: (7 x 0.25) + (9 x 0.20) + (10 x 0.20) + (2 x 0.20) + (10 x 0.15) = 7.45, which is 74.5 on a 100-point scale. Peter Thomas Roth comes to 5.20 and 111SKIN to 3.20. Two of those scores are low for the same reason, and it is not the one you would expect: neither Grace & Stella nor 111SKIN publishes any test figure at all for these patches. Move that axis down to 5 points and spread its 15 across the other four in proportion and the tally reads 84.7, 50.5 and 34.3. Same order.

    Prices are approximate, current as of publication, and change frequently — confirm the latest price with the retailer before buying.

    Caffeine at Ten of Seventeen, Collagen at Twenty-Six of Thirty-Three

    Cosmetic ingredient lists are not arbitrary. 21 CFR 701.3 requires a cosmetic label to declare its ingredients in descending order of predominance, and paragraph (f) lets a company group them instead: everything above 1 percent in descending order, then everything at 1 percent or less in any order, then color additives in any order. So the front of a list is ordered and the tail is not. Where an ingredient sits tells you which half of that line it fell on.

    Here is where each product’s own selling point lands on its own label, read off the ingredient lists Grace & Stella, Peter Thomas Roth and 111SKIN publish on their product pages.

    The Peter Thomas Roth row is the odd one. Under paragraph (f) a color additive goes at the end of the list, and two of its three do. Gold does not. Either the list is a straight descending-order declaration under paragraph (a), in which case gold really is the fifth most abundant thing in the patch, or the ordering is not strict. The label does not say which method it used, and the regulation does not require it to.

    One thing the ingredient order cannot tell you: whether 111SKIN’s collagen is at 0.9 percent or 0.001 percent. Below the 1 percent line, position is free. Anyone reading a tail position as a concentration is reading something that is not there.

    Lavender Oil and Linalool on the $75 Label

    Peter Thomas Roth’s ingredient list includes Lavandula Angustifolia Oil at position 20 and Linalool at position 28. Linalool is a recognized fragrance allergen; European cosmetic labeling has required it to be named separately for years, which is why you see it spelled out on a US label at all. Neither ingredient appears on the front of the box or in the product name, only in the list.

    111SKIN’s list has no declared fragrance allergen and no parfum. It does carry Alcohol Denat. at position 15, ahead of the botanical extracts it is sold on. Grace & Stella’s Bronze list has neither: no essential oil, no denatured alcohol, no fragrance entry, 17 ingredients start to finish.

    None of that makes one patch safe and another dangerous, and this page is not going to tell you it does. Contact allergy is individual. What it does mean is that one of the three gives you something to check against your own history and the other two give you less to check.

    The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 directs the FDA to write a fragrance-allergen labeling rule. The agency’s own MoCRA page lists that rulemaking as required and does not publish a date for it. Until it lands, whether an allergen is named on a US cosmetic label is largely the company’s own call.

    Two Travel Boxes for Five Dollars Less Than One Big Box

    Patches are a consumable, so the box you can actually buy sets the price, not the box on the review. All three companies sell more than one size, and only two of the three ladders point the way you would expect.

    Grace & Stella’s ladder behaves: the 6-pair box costs 77.8 percent more per pair than the 48-pair box, and stepping from 24 pairs to 48 takes 13.5 percent off the pair price. 111SKIN’s barely moves, 4.3 percent between its two sizes.

    Peter Thomas Roth’s runs backwards. Its travel box is $2.33 a pair and its full box is $2.50, so the big box costs 7.1 percent more per pair than the small one. Buy two travel boxes and you have 30 pairs for $70 instead of $75. One caveat, and it matters: the travel box is a limited edition on Peter Thomas Roth’s own store, so this is a live quirk rather than a standing rule. The site was also advertising 30 percent off everything on the day I checked, which is not in any figure here, because a promotion is not a price.

    Six Colors, One Price, One Caffeinated Formula

    Grace & Stella sells its under-eye patches in six colors at one price, $26 for 24 pairs, and publishes a separate ingredient list for each. That is worth more than it sounds. The Gold version, which the company calls its bestseller, contains no caffeine at all. The Bronze one does, at position 10 of 17, and Bronze is the one the company describes as a caffeine boost for puffy morning eyes.

    So if you are buying these for de-puffing, the color is the product. Six lists, six formulas, one price, and a shopper who picks by shade is picking by accident.

    The Bronze list in order: water, glycerin, propylene glycol, niacinamide, 1,2-hexanediol, carrageenan, glucomannan, potassium chloride, hydroxyacetophenone, caffeine, cyclodextrin, mica, allantoin, sodium hyaluronate, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, iron oxides. Seventeen entries, and niacinamide fourth is the highest any active sits on any of these three labels.

    Against it: Grace & Stella publishes no test figure of any kind for these patches, and that costs it 16 points of the 20 on the evidence axis. It also has the shortest ingredient list here, which is a feature if you are avoiding things and a shortfall if you wanted the peptide complex.

    Skip this if you want a product that will tell you what it did in a trial. On that question Grace & Stella tells you nothing.

    Thirty-One Women, One Use, Three Percentages

    Peter Thomas Roth is the only one of the three that publishes a number behind its claim. Its product page reports a consumer study of 31 women aged 30 to 59: 100 percent agreed the eye area felt firmer, 97 percent agreed it appeared radiant and illuminated, 94 percent agreed it appeared brighter, all immediately after a single use.

    Read that carefully. Thirty-one people, one application, and the outcome measured is agreement rather than a measurement. It is company-run consumer perception, and Peter Thomas Roth says so. It is also more than either competitor discloses, which is why it scores 6 rather than 2 on the evidence axis and still not higher.

    The product’s name on peterthomasroth.com is 24K Gold Firming Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. And the full box is not the value buy in its own line, per the ladder above.

    Skip this if lavender oil or linalool is on your avoid list. Both are on this label, and there is a 17-ingredient alternative in this comparison with neither.

    Fourteen Dollars a Pair, and Gold at Thirty-One of Thirty-Three

    The 111SKIN Rose Gold Illuminating Eye Mask is $115 for 8 masks or $60 for 4, per 111SKIN’s own US store. Its list runs to 33 ingredients. Hydrolyzed collagen is 26th, pomegranate seed extract 29th and gold 31st. Those are the three ingredients the product is named and sold on, and all three sit in the part of the list the regulation stops ordering.

    Some of what is higher up is real. Niacinamide sits 12th, panthenol 11th, centella asiatica extract 17th. The mask is not empty. It is that $14.38 a pair buys a formula whose distinguishing ingredients are, by its own label, in the tail.

    This is the named loser of the comparison, and it lost on disclosure and price rather than on formulation. If you want it for a wedding morning, buy the 4-mask box and accept that you are paying about 63 cents a pair extra for the smaller commitment.

    Skip this if you plan to use patches more than once or twice a year. At $14.38 a pair, twice a week for a month is $115, and the tally above says you are not buying a better label for it.

    The One Number Missing From All Three Labels

    Not one of these companies publishes a concentration for anything. Not caffeine, not collagen, not niacinamide. The ordering rule in 21 CFR 701.3 is the only handle a shopper has, and it goes slack at 1 percent. Every ranking on this page is a ranking of what is disclosed, and I would rather say that than dress a position number up as a dose.

    A search of publicly indexed FDA recall notices returned nothing for Peter Thomas Roth, 111SKIN or Grace & Stella eye patches. That is a search of what is indexed, not a database query, and it is worth repeating before you buy.

    Patches do one thing for a few hours.     Buy the Sockwell Men’s Circulator at $32.95 if you want compression socks whose maker publishes a number and then keeps quiet. It takes the ledger below at 83.7 of 100. CEP’s The Run Compression Tall Socks 4.0, $47.96 today against a $59.95 list, comes second at 79.4 and is the only one of the three sized on a measurement of your leg rather than your foot. Copper Fit’s Energy Compression Socks, $29.99, scores 15.0. It publishes no mmHg figure anywhere on its own product page while telling you the sock helps increase circulation and reduce swelling. That is the one to skip.

    I wear compression socks on long flights. I have not worn any of these three, and this page never pretends otherwise. Everything below comes from the makers’ own product pages, the Code of Federal Regulations, an FTC enforcement order, NHS prescribing guidance and a 2024 peer-reviewed review of compression knits, all read on 31 August 2026.

    A Sock Can Say Graduated and Publish One Number

    Graduated means a gradient. A gradient is a difference between two points. So a graduated compression sock is, by definition, described by at least two pressures: one at the ankle, one further up.

    The 2024 review of orthopaedic compression knits in Applied Sciences sets out the profile the term is supposed to describe: ankle zone 100 percent, calf zone 70 percent, above the knee 50 percent, thigh zone 40 percent. That is the shape the word promises. Here is what the three makers publish against it.

    Three for three. Every one of them uses the word, none of them publishes the second number that would let you verify it. Two at least give you the anchor point. Copper Fit gives you the adjective and nothing else.

    This is not an accusation that the socks are not graduated. They may well be. The point is narrower and more useful: on published information alone, you cannot tell, and neither can we.

    A 15-20 mmHg Label Does Not Map Onto Either European Class

    The US ranges you see on packaging — 8-15, 15-20, 20-30 — are marketing bands, not classes from a standard. Europe has two systems that do define classes, and the NHS South & West formulary guidance on compression hosiery publishes both.

    Read that as a translation problem, not a scandal. If a doctor abroad told you Class II and you buy a US sock labelled 15-20 mmHg, you may be under the British Class II floor of 18 and well under the German floor of 23. The same NHS guidance notes British Standard garments deliver less compression than German RAL ones at the same class number.

    The FDA Does Not Require a 510(k) for Either Kind of Stocking

    Compression stockings are regulated devices in the US, under 21 CFR 880.5780. The regulation splits them in two. Part (a) covers a stocking “intended for use in the prevention of pooling of blood in the leg” and puts it in Class II with special controls. Part (b) covers a stocking “intended for medical purposes other than the prevention of pooling of blood in the leg” and puts it in Class I.

    Both are exempt from premarket notification. The Class I general-purpose version is also exempt from the quality management system regulation in part 820, apart from records and complaint-file requirements. Nothing in that arrangement puts a person between the number printed on the package and the shelf.

    Which matters most for the sock that prints no number at all. Copper Fit’s page says the sock delivers “Energizing graduated support that helps increase circulation, reduce swelling, and improves foot and leg comfort, performance, and recovery.” That is a claim about what happens inside your leg, made without a figure describing the pressure applied to it.

    There is precedent worth knowing here. On 1 December 2015 the FTC announced a $1.35 million settlement with Tommie Copper over copper-infused compression apparel advertised as relieving severe and chronic pain from arthritis and other conditions, with claims of relief comparable to drugs or surgery. The order requires competent and reliable scientific evidence before future claims about pain relief, disease treatment or health benefits. Different company, same product category, and the reason to read a copper garment’s health copy slowly.

    Four Axes Will Settle This, and Two of Them Are About Wording

What the maker’s own page says the sock will do to your body, set against what it publishes to support it. Descriptive copy with no condition named, 30. Pressure is force over circumference, so a sock sized on the leg it will squeeze can deliver a stated pressure and a sock sized on your shoe cannot. Calf circumference, 25. Shoe size, 10. Neither stated, 0. Price on the maker’s own store, 15 points. Cheapest gets 15, the others get 15 times $29.99 divided by their own price.

    Two of these axes score wording rather than fabric. That is deliberate and it is the argument of this page. Nothing any of these three makers publishes lets you measure the fabric, so the honest thing to score is what each one is prepared to put in writing.

    Disagree with the sizing weight and the order changes. Drop it from 25 to 10 and it is Sockwell 77.7 to CEP 64.4, a wider win. Raise it to 40 and CEP takes the tally, 94.4 to 89.7. The arithmetic is above; run it your way.

    Sockwell Will Sell You 15-20 mmHg and No Medical Claim

    The Men’s Circulator is $32.95, 32% merino wool, 31% bamboo rayon, 32% stretch nylon and 5% spandex, made in the USA, and on 31 August 2026 Sockwell’s own store had most of its size-and-colour variants in stock, with a few colours sold out in the larger sizes. Its published copy runs to seven words of physiology: 15-20 mmHg compression for quick recovery. No condition, no mechanism, no promise about your blood.

    Sockwell also files the Circulator under Lifestyle Compression rather than medical compression.

    The defect is sizing. Sockwell’s own size chart says all you need is your shoe size, and the chart’s columns are women’s, men’s and EU shoe sizes. A separate Wide Calf line stretches about 15 to 20 percent wider, which is an admission that calves vary and an approach to it, but the standard Circulator is still fitted to your foot and worn on your calf.

    Skip this if your calves sit outside the average and you are buying compression for a reason rather than for comfort, or if a doctor gave you a number above 20 mmHg.

    CEP Can Size a Sock to Your Calf, and Charges $47.96

    CEP is the only one of the three that asks you to measure something. Its size guidance for tall socks and calf sleeves is to measure calf circumference at the widest point, and its sizes are roman numerals rather than shoe sizes. For a garment whose entire function is applying a stated pressure to a leg of a given girth, that is the correct method, and it is worth the 25 points.

    Then the copy runs away from it. CEP’s page for the 4.0 credits the sock with accelerated removal of lactic acid, activating the nutrient supply in the feet and calves, and relieving pain from plantar fasciitis, shin splints and the Achilles tendon. Three named conditions on a product page for a $47.96 sock is a different register from Sockwell’s seven words, and it costs CEP half the claim-discipline axis.

    What it is genuinely good at is being an easy sock to get on. The Easy On, Easy Off construction is a real feature and a real reason someone with limited grip or reach might choose it over a stiffer 20-30 mmHg sock they cannot pull up. If that describes you, buy it for that, and do not buy it expecting a measured pressure.

    It means pressure that falls as it goes up the leg. The 2024 review of orthopaedic compression knits in Applied Sciences describes the intended profile as ankle 100 percent, calf 70 percent, above the knee 50 percent and thigh 40 percent. Checking that profile needs at least two published pressures, and none of these three socks publishes more than one.

    Is a 15-20 mmHg sock the same as a European Class 1 stocking?
