Jewelers Mutual and Lavalier finish two points apart, which is close enough that the score isn’t really what separates them. The fine print is.
Jewelers Mutual’s deductible options, appraisal specifics and per-item handling all route to a phone call — 888-884-2424 is the number on its own coverage page. Lavalier prints the same category of information directly: appraisal required above $5,000, $50 minimum premium, deductible anywhere from $0 to $25,000, your choice. If I were putting my own card down today, I’d take Lavalier over Jewelers Mutual for that reason alone — not the two-point gap, but the fact that every number I’d need to compare against BriteCo is already on the page instead of waiting on hold to find out.
Skip Jewelers Mutual if price is your main filter. Its 1-2% band runs higher than BriteCo’s real receipts for a comparable item, and the $0 deductible has to be actively selected rather than assumed. Lavalier isn’t the pick if your piece is worth much under $2,500. The $50 minimum premium alone pushes the effective rate above 2%, worse than BriteCo’s verified numbers at any value. The direct answer: a 1-carat moissanite runs about $550 and a 1-carat lab-grown diamond about $850, but price isn’t the only thing that changed this year. Charles & Colvard, the company that patented moissanite as a gem and still writes the “lifetime warranty” printed on most Forever One rings, filed Chapter 11 in March 2026 and sold its assets for $2.7 million in June — to a company that sells lab-grown diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds picked up their own asterisk the same year: GIA stopped giving them specific color and clarity grades in October 2025. Both are still real, durable, dramatically cheaper alternatives to a natural diamond. Neither is quite the same purchase it was a year ago.
I’ve spent enough afternoons in salt air and sunscreen to know a ring takes more abuse at the beach than in a jewelry store. The wattage-label problem this site usually finds in a comparison like this is a maker fudging a number. This one is different. The number on the moissanite warranty hasn’t changed, but the company standing behind it has been through bankruptcy court, and the new owner primarily sells the competing product.
GIA Stopped Giving Lab-Grown Diamonds Specific Grades in October 2025
GIA’s reasoning, from its own announcement, is arithmetic rather than skepticism. Laboratory-grown diamonds are grown to spec, not mined, so the vast majority land in a narrow band of color and clarity. Tom Moses, GIA’s executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer, put a number on it. More than 95% of lab-grown diamonds entering the market fall into that narrow range. A grading scale built in the 1940s was made for one-of-a-kind mined stones, GIA argued. It doesn’t tell a buyer much when nearly every stone submitted lands in the same few boxes.
Under a jeweler’s light, a stone’s grading report matters more than its sparkle.
So as of October 1, 2025, a GIA report on a lab-grown diamond reads “Premium” or “Standard” — full stop, no VS1, no F-color, no cut grade spelled out. A stone that doesn’t clear the bar for Standard gets no report at all. That’s not true everywhere. IGI, the other major lab most retailers use for lab-grown stones, has kept issuing the full 4Cs: an individual color grade, an individual clarity grade, cut, polish and symmetry, the same format it always has. The detail GIA stepped back from didn’t disappear from the industry. It just moved to a different piece of paper. A buyer comparing two lab-grown diamonds side by side needs to know which lab wrote each report before “VS1” and “Premium” can be compared at all.
Moissanite gets no comparable independent report from either lab. What ships with a Charles & Colvard stone is the company’s own documentation, not a third-party grade.

The moissanite-to-lab-grown gap is real but not huge in dollar terms — about $300 on a 1-carat stone. The gap to a natural diamond is the one that actually explains why this comparison exists at all. Even at the low end of the natural range, moissanite runs roughly 82% cheaper and lab-grown roughly 72% cheaper. At the high end, both discounts run past 85%.
Extra Fire Is Also the Reason a Jeweler Can Spot It
Moissanite’s higher refractive index isn’t marketing spin. It’s a real optical property, and it’s the reason some buyers actively prefer it. GIA’s own material describes moissanite as showing more brilliance than a diamond of the same cut. It also shows roughly double the fire, the rainbow-colored flashes as light splits. In a 1-carat stone under normal indoor light, most people won’t notice. Go up in size, or into direct sun, and the effect becomes obvious enough that GIA’s own materials mention a “disco ball” look in larger stones. It isn’t a flaw exactly, but it is a different look than a diamond makes. It’s also the reason a jeweler can identify moissanite without special equipment: viewed at an angle, the extra dispersion produces a faint double image of the stone’s own back facets.
Skip moissanite if you specifically want the classic, slightly cooler diamond sparkle. It would bother you if a stone read as more colorful under bright light. Skip lab-grown diamond if saving the extra $300 a carat matters more to you than an optical match to a mined stone. Also skip it if you want a GIA report that spells out an actual color and clarity grade, not just “Premium,” and you haven’t confirmed which lab your retailer uses.
Neither Stone Resells, But Only One Company Didn’t Survive
Buy either stone assuming it’s the ring you’ll wear, not an asset you’ll liquidate. That part of the math is settled and it’s the same for both. What’s different is what happens on the seller’s side of the transaction.
Charles & Colvard’s own site now carries a banner announcing the acquisition. The homepage still advertises the Forever One lifetime warranty in the same language it used before the filing. Executive Chairman Michael Levin’s statement at the time of the Chapter 11 filing said customers “can continue to shop with confidence.” It also said operations would proceed “without interruption.” That’s a company’s statement about itself during a bankruptcy proceeding, not an independent confirmation. It also predates the June sale to AJS Creations, whose CEO has said the plan is to “operate it as a standalone brand,” with no public statement so far about whether pre-sale warranty claims will be honored.
Lab-grown diamond retailers carry a different risk. None of the major sellers checked here are in bankruptcy. But the wholesale collapse JCK reported, a 96% decline since 2018 with a 26% drop in 2025 alone, is exactly the kind of pressure that put Charles & Colvard in Chapter 11 in the first place. That’s just one link up the supply chain from the retailer a buyer actually deals with.
Buy Lab-Grown If Certification and Continuity Matter More Than Price
After enough salt-air seasons to trust hardness over a warranty, lab-grown diamond is the one I’d point a friend toward: real Mohs parity, and a retailer that hasn’t been through bankruptcy court. The roughly $300-a-carat premium over moissanite buys most of that.
Moissanite is still the right buy if the $550 price tag itself is the deciding factor. It’s also the right buy if the extra fire is a feature to you rather than a tell. Just don’t count on the “lifetime” in Forever One’s warranty meaning what it meant before March 2026. Confirm directly with whoever is selling you the ring, in writing, what the new ownership actually honors.

A 27kW electric unit like the EcoSmart ECO 27 can’t match that in a cold-climate home without wiring two units in parallel, and it draws 113 amps doing it.

Every tankless water heater box carries one headline number: a max GPM. What that number is measured against is the temperature rise, the gap between what comes out of your ground and what comes out of your tap. That decides whether it means anything to your house. We pulled the actual disclosure from each maker’s own current site, not a retailer listing, for three real units. Why Can’t We Verify Rinnai’s Real GPM?
That gap is not cosmetic. A 60°F rise — the number that matters for most of the northern half of the US in winter — cuts the Navien’s usable flow to 6.5 GPM, 58% of its headline figure. If Rinnai’s unit derates the same way, and a same-BTU condensing gas unit almost certainly does, the RXP199iN’s real winter number is probably close to that too. We just can’t confirm it from Rinnai’s own materials, and we’re not going to print a number Rinnai hasn’t. That’s the honest gap in this comparison.

That’s worth checking, since Rinnai discontinued the similarly-named RUR199iN in 2022 and quietly moved buyers to the RXP199iN and RX199iN instead. None of the three carries an open recall from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or Health Canada as of August 2026. Navien’s own carbon-monoxide recall, still listed on the CPSC’s site, covers the NCB-180E, NPE-180S, and NPE-180A when converted to propane between 2018 and 2019. That’s a different model line and a different fuel conversion, not this unit.
How Much GPM Does a Tankless Water Heater Need for Showers?
GPM only means something next to a real household demand. Start with what actually runs at once. A federal standard caps a standard showerhead at 2.5 GPM. A WaterSense-certified showerhead, per the EPA, “must demonstrate that they use no more than 2.0 gpm.” Add a dishwasher’s hot-fill draw — typically 1 to 1.5 GPM in plumbing-trade sizing guides — and a hot-cycle washing machine, typically 1.5 to 2 GPM, and the math for a normal Tuesday morning stacks up fast.

That’s the real design target: 5 to 7 GPM for most two-to-three-bathroom households. That’s before you’ve touched a hot tub or a rain-shower head that pulls more than the WaterSense figure. Nobody’s household runs at 11 GPM. The question a buyer needs answered is whether a given unit can hold 5 to 7 GPM at their own winter temperature. It isn’t whether it can hit 11 GPM on a warm day in a lab.
How Does Groundwater Change Tankless Water Heater GPM?
Temperature rise is the gap between what comes out of the ground and what you want at the tap. That target is usually set around 120°F on a gas tankless unit. Rinnai’s own groundwater temperature map, used industry-wide for sizing, puts incoming water anywhere from the mid-30s°F in the northern tier (the Dakotas, Minnesota, Maine) up to the high 70s°F on the Gulf Coast and in the Southwest. That’s not a small spread. It’s the difference between a 35°F rise and a 70°F rise off the same 120°F target. That’s exactly the range Navien’s own chart covers.
The tap doesn’t care what the box says at 35°F rise if your winter demands 70.
Run the fixture math from above against Navien’s own numbers and the picture changes by region. On the Gulf Coast, at roughly a 35°F rise, the NPE-240A2’s 11.2 GPM clears every combination in the table above with room left over. It clears even all four fixtures running at once. In most of the rest of the country, at a 60°F winter rise, it delivers 6.5 GPM. That’s enough for two WaterSense showers and a dishwasher (5.3 GPM), with 1.2 GPM of headroom, but not quite enough for two standard showers and a dishwasher (6.3 GPM). Push into the upper Midwest or northern New England, where a 70°F rise is normal in January, and the unit’s own chart drops to 5.6 GPM. That’s barely ahead of the 5.3 GPM baseline case, and short of every heavier combination in the table.
Why Does a Bigger Temperature Rise Mean Less Flow?
None of that is a defect. It’s physics: the same burner has to heat a bigger temperature gap, so less water can pass through it per minute at the same output temperature. It’s also exactly the number the box doesn’t lead with. That’s exactly why a unit sized off its headline GPM instead of its cold-climate GPM runs out of hot water on the coldest morning of the year, not the mildest one.
How Many GPM Can an Electric Tankless Water Heater Deliver?
The EcoSmart ECO 27 solves a different problem well. It’s $619, needs no gas line or vent pipe, and installs in a space a gas unit couldn’t fit into. What it doesn’t solve is winter, at whole-house scale. EcoSmart’s own listing specifies 27kW at 240V, 113 amps, requiring three 40-amp double-pole breakers. That’s 120 amps of dedicated circuit capacity for one appliance, more than many older homes’ entire electrical panel. Even ignoring the panel question, the wattage math is unforgiving. Using the standard water-heating formula (BTU/hr = 500 × GPM × °F rise, converted to kW), heating 6 GPM through a 60°F rise takes roughly 53kW, about two ECO 27 units wired in parallel. That’s exactly the panel-capacity problem raised above, not a smaller one.
That’s the trade-off, stated plainly. Gas condensing units carry the whole-house cold-climate load and cost $1,800 to $2,100 plus venting. The ECO 27 costs a third of that, needs no gas line, and works best exactly where the temperature-rise problem above is smallest.
Which Tankless Water Heater GPM Fits Your Home?
Navien NPE-240A2 is a strong pick for a real whole-house install anywhere north of the Sun Belt. It has a published full flow curve, a 15-year residential heat-exchanger warranty, and 0.95 UEF. Skip this if you’re heating one bathroom or a small apartment. $2,099 plus gas venting is a lot of unit for a demand this small.
Rinnai RXP199iN matches the Navien closely on paper: slightly higher UEF at 0.98, a built-in recirculation pump, about $240 cheaper. But its own site won’t tell you what it delivers at any specific temperature rise. Skip this if you want to size the unit yourself from published numbers rather than trusting an installer’s word for the derated flow. Buy it only if a licensed installer can hand you Rinnai’s rise chart from the install manual before you commit.
EcoSmart ECO 27 is the right call for a single bathroom or a rental unit. It also suits a warm-climate home that never needs more than a 35–40°F rise. Skip this if you’re heating a whole cold-climate house, or don’t already have 120 amps of spare panel capacity. Also skip it if you want a hot-water flow number you can actually check before buying.
Which Tankless Water Heater Wins Overall?
After enough hot-climate mornings where two showers collide, the Navien NPE-240A2 is the one I’d buy, because it’s the only one of the three that shows its real winter numbers. It’s the named winner for the job most people buying a tankless water heater actually have: a whole house, a real winter, more than one fixture running at once. Reread the box’s GPM number as a summer number, size for winter, and buy the unit that publishes both.

Monica Vinader is the only one that prints a gold thickness on the product page you are actually looking at, at least 2.5 microns, and pairs it with a stated 5-year warranty and a published offer to re-plate vermeil that loses its color. Nobody else here does all three.
Three of the six publish no warranty term at all. Mejuri, gorjana and Missoma name no duration anywhere a buyer would look. A fourth, Astrid & Miyu, publishes one year and then excludes plating wear after three months. Every brand on this page sells a product whose gold layer is a consumable. Four of the six will not commit in writing to that layer surviving a season.

Read what this Ledger measures before you argue with it. How Do the Weighted Scores Compare?
Disagree with a weight? Re-run the tally. If you think a repair service matters more than a printed micron figure, push Restoration to 25 and drop Gold Layer to 15, and Monica Vinader’s lead widens rather than shrinks. If you think the micron figure is the only thing that matters, move five points from Plating Named to Gold Layer and Mejuri jumps past Ana Luisa. What does not move is the bottom. Missoma finishes last at 14.0 under every weighting I tried, for the plain reason that four of the five axes have nothing to score.

Three rows say cannot be computed. That is not a formatting failure. It is the finding. There is no denominator because Mejuri, gorjana and Missoma have not published one, and a warranty with no stated end is not generosity, it is an absence of writing.
Mejuri’s own warranty FAQ describes how to file a claim, what happens when a claim is approved, and that using a third-party repair service voids the warranty. It never says for how long any of that applies. gorjana’s FAQ covers a 30-day return window on unworn items and a free repair service restricted to its fine jewelry, and states no warranty period. Missoma’s US returns page gives 90 days on unworn items and its terms and conditions carry no jewelry warranty period at all.
Plating Cover Cost Per Year for Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands
Astrid & Miyu costs $500.00 per year of plating cover. That is the highest number on this page and it comes out of the brand’s own policy text, not out of anything I assumed.
The previous table used the headline warranty. This one uses the window in which a plating complaint will actually be entertained, which is a different number for one brand and the same number for the rest. Astrid & Miyu’s warranty policy covers all jewelry for one year, then lists under exclusions: general wear and tear, including plating wear, unless a significant issue occurs within three months of purchase. Three months is a quarter of a year. So the denominator is 0.25, not 1.

Twelve times. That is the multiple between Ana Luisa’s $42.50 and Astrid & Miyu’s $500.00, and it exists entirely because one brand wrote tarnishing into the covered list and the other wrote plating wear into the excluded list. Same product category. Same failure mode. Opposite paragraph.
Astrid & Miyu is not being sneaky about this, to be fair to them. The exclusion is written in plain English in the policy where you would expect to find it, and a separate help article says outright that plating wear cannot be resolved through cleaning because the plated surface layer has gradually worn away. That is a more candid description of how this product fails than four of the other five brands manage. Candor and coverage are separate things.

Note what this does to the assumption that price signals substance. Mejuri’s $118 hoop and Monica Vinader’s $220 hoop carry the same stated 2.5 microns. Missoma’s $140 hoop sits between them in price with no stated thickness at all. Price and published gold depth do not track across these six. If you are paying more expecting more gold, ask the brand for the number, because on four of these six sites the number is not there to find.
Monica Vinader still earns the higher price on the other axes. It just does not earn it here.

What Does the Ana Luisa Result Mean for Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands?
The Ana Luisa row matters more than the others, and not because it is flattering. Ana Luisa scores 2 out of 10 on the thickness axis and gets beaten badly on disclosure. Its actual product still passed two months of showering, running, hiking and swimming in the hands of a named editor at a named publication. Disclosure and performance are different questions, and this page can only score one of them properly. Bear that in mind before treating the Ledger as a verdict on quality.
The Tie-Breaker Between Two Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands
Ana Luisa takes second on 49.5. Mejuri takes third on 46.0. A 3.5-point gap on a 100-point scale is inside the margin of one reasonable disagreement, so second place here is a genuine tie in everything but the arithmetic.

Which of These Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands Would I Buy?
After enough humid summers watching cheap plating go first at the clasp, I’d spend my money on Mejuri, since its 2.5 published microns beat a warranty I can’t test until something breaks. 2.5 microns of 18k over sterling silver at $118 is the most gold anyone here will commit to per dollar. A published thickness is a fact I can check today, while a two-year warranty is a promise I have to test by having something go wrong first. Ana Luisa’s warranty is better written. Mejuri’s product is better documented.
Take the other side if you want the failure mode named in a contract rather than the material named on a spec page. That is a defensible read of the same evidence, which is more than can be said for the bottom two.
What Vermeil Legally Means for Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands
Vermeil is not a marketing adjective in the United States. It is a defined term with three conditions, and a piece that misses any one of them cannot carry the name.
Under 16 CFR § 23.4(b), a product may be described as vermeil if it consists of a base of sterling silver coated or plated on all significant surfaces with gold, or gold alloy of not less than 10 karat fineness, that is of reasonable durability and a minimum thickness throughout equivalent to two and one half microns of fine gold. Three conditions. Sterling silver underneath. At least 10 karat. At least 2.5 microns.
Compare that to ordinary plating. 16 CFR § 23.3(c) sets the floor for marking something Gold Electroplate at a minimum thickness equivalent to 0.175 microns, and reserves the term Heavy Gold Electroplate for 2.5 microns. So the legal gap between the thinnest thing that may legally be called gold electroplate and the thinnest thing that may legally be called vermeil is roughly fourteen to one.
Why Does the Base Metal Matter for Demi-Fine Jewelry Brands?
The base metal rule is the one that catches people. A brass base disqualifies a piece from being vermeil at any thickness whatsoever. You could plate brass with ten microns of 24k gold and it still would not be vermeil, because vermeil is a statement about what is underneath as much as what is on top. If your buying decision runs through the returns and warranty page rather than the materials page, this brand will frustrate you.
Ana Luisa
Skip this if a brass base is a dealbreaker, or if you want your jewelry repaired rather than swapped. Ana Luisa states plainly that it is not able to repair broken or damaged jewelry and offers a one-time replacement or store credit instead. Returns inside the 30-day window also carry a fee that varies by product and return method. And treat the list price as a starting position rather than a price — the Abby Hoop Earrings show $85 list against $72.25 for members, with a sitewide spend-and-save promotion running on top.
Astrid & Miyu
Skip this if you expect the plating to be covered. Three months, and only for a significant issue, on a $125 pair of hoops. That is $500.00 per year of plating cover, the worst number on this page.

Run your robot daily and you hit that threshold in 1 to 1.5 years. Clean three or four times a week and the battery stretches to 2 or 3 years.
I’ve kept rechargeable gear running through hurricane season heat and humidity. A hot laundry room or garage ages a charging dock faster than any spec sheet admits. So I plan around the shorter end of a printed battery-life range, not the longer one.

Here’s the ownership math. A $300 robot appears to cost $60 per year over five years. Add a $150 battery swap in year three and the real annual cost becomes $90. A $400 robot at an apparent $80 per year jumps to $110 per year with that same mid-life battery.
The Annual Cost No One Prints on the Box
Robot vacuums ship with one battery. That battery costs money to replace, and replacement timing depends entirely on how often you run the thing. The box never mentions the $30 to $50 per year the battery adds to ownership.
Daily cleaning burns through charge cycles fastest. ECOVACS notes that daily runs typically yield “approximately 1 to 1.5 years” before noticeable capacity loss. Clean Monday through Friday and you might stretch it to two years. Three or four runs per week — the pattern most buyers actually follow — gives you the full 2 to 3 years, sometimes longer.
But even light use doesn’t stop aging. Lithium-ion batteries degrade over calendar time whether you use them or not. Leave a robot idle for months and the battery still loses capacity. Heat accelerates this. Park the dock in direct sunlight or a hot garage and the pack ages faster sitting there than it would running.
What Kills Robot Vacuum Battery Lifespan Early?
Three things shorten battery life more than use alone: heat, full depletion, and high-power modes.
Heat is the worst offender. Robot vacuum batteries generate heat while charging and discharging. Add environmental heat — a dock near a sunny window, a garage in summer — and internal temperatures climb past the lithium-ion comfort zone. Battery health research from Chargie confirms that “heat and direct sunlight accelerate chemical aging” even when the robot sits idle.
Repeatedly running the battery to zero also accelerates wear. Lithium-ion chemistry prefers partial discharge cycles. Draining to empty and charging to full stresses the cells more than staying in the 20 to 80 percent range. Most robots return to the dock automatically when low, which helps, but manually running one until it dies and then leaving it uncharged damages the pack.
High-power modes — max suction, carpet boost, simultaneous vacuum-and-mop — draw more current per cycle. More current means more heat and deeper discharge per run. The battery still lasts the rated cycles, but each cycle takes a bigger bite out of capacity.

Worn motors, failing sensors, and outdated navigation you cannot.
Third-party batteries cut the replacement cost nearly in half but come with risk. Quality varies. Some match OEM performance; others fail early or trigger error codes. If you go third-party, buy from a seller with a return policy and check the voltage and connector type match exactly. A battery that fits physically but outputs the wrong voltage can fry the charging circuit.
Skip this if: Your robot is over four years old and navigation has degraded. The battery is rarely the only thing failing at that point, and a $100+ battery in a robot nearing the end of its sensor and motor life is money better spent on a replacement unit.

Twenty thousand mAh covers a full day away from an outlet, or a phone plus a tablet. Neither number is what actually reaches your phone, once voltage conversion takes its cut.
Run the real math on three current power banks: the $25.99 Anker 313 Power Bank (PowerCore 10K), the $36.99 INIU Carry P51L-E2, and the $139.99 Anker Prime 20,000mAh Power Bank (200W). The cheapest 20,000mAh bank here delivers the same usable capacity as the one that costs nearly four times as much. The Prime’s price buys speed and a screen. It does not buy more phone charges.

INIU wins both columns. It delivers roughly the same usable capacity as the Anker Prime for a little over a quarter of the price. It also does it lighter per delivered mAh than either Anker. The 313 is the most expensive of the three per delivered mAh. That’s the tax on a bank small enough to disappear in a jacket pocket. It’s 7.5 ounces total, not per thousand mAh.
The Prime’s $11.29-per-1,000mAh number looks bad in isolation, until you remember it isn’t selling capacity. It’s selling 200 watts of output and a display that shows exactly how much charge is left. The $36.99 INIU offers neither at any price.
How Much of a Power Bank’s Capacity Reaches Your Phone?
The gap comes from voltage, not marketing. Cells inside a power bank run at 3.7 volts. A phone charges over USB at 5 volts or higher. So the bank’s own circuitry has to step that voltage up before anything leaves the port. That single conversion step accounts for roughly 26% of the rated capacity on its own. That’s per a physics breakdown published by Power Bank Tests, an independent power bank testing publication. Internal resistance, the boost converter’s own inefficiency, and heat add another several percent on top. That lands a well-made 20,000mAh bank’s realistic yield around 12,000–12,400mAh — the ~62% figure used in the table above.
None of the three makers here publish that adjusted number. Anker and INIU both advertise the cell rating, and it’s accurate — it just isn’t the number that ends up in your phone. We applied that same ~62% yield to all three banks rather than bench-testing them. So treat it as a modeled figure, not a measured one. Real-world yield varies unit to unit, and none of the three brands publish a tested number of their own.
Apple’s iPhone 16 carries a 3,561mAh battery, per GSMArena’s published specifications. Against that reference: the Anker 313’s ~6,200 delivered mAh is good for about 1.7 full charges. The INIU and the Anker Prime each land around 3.5 charges — the same number, from two very differently priced bags.
Matching a Power Bank’s mAh to the Trip, Not the Sticker
A single dead-phone rescue — the 3 p.m. panic — needs one real charge, call it 3,500–4,500 delivered mAh depending on the phone. Even the Anker 313’s ~6,200mAh clears that with room to spare, and at $25.99 it’s the cheapest way in this comparison to solve exactly that problem.
A full day away from an outlet, or splitting charges between a phone and a smaller device like earbuds or a watch, runs closer to 8,000–10,000 delivered mAh. That rules the 313 out. It puts both 20,000mAh-rated banks — INIU and the Prime — in the running. Each carries more than enough delivered capacity for that job alone.
Tom’s Guide’s Jason England, who reviews power banks professionally, draws a similar line: “Personally, I won’t go below 10,000mAh if I’m charging my phone more than once a day,” he wrote in the outlet’s portable charger buying guide. That’s a rated number, not a delivered one — which puts his real floor closer to 6,000mAh usable, in line with what the math above says a 10,000mAh-rated bank actually clears.
Charging a laptop is a different question, and capacity alone doesn’t answer it.
Can These Power Banks Charge a Laptop?
Capacity is only half of a laptop’s charging question; wattage decides the other half. USB Power Delivery is the standard all three of these banks use. It scales in defined tiers up to 100W, 140W, 180W, and 240W, per the USB Implementers Forum’s own specification. Most mainstream laptops charge at a genuinely usable speed somewhere in the 45–65W range. HP, for one, ships most of its own laptops with a 65W charger and says a lower-wattage one “will still work, but it may charge slowly.”
Wattage, not mAh, decides whether a bank can keep up with a laptop.
Of the three banks here, only the Anker Prime’s 200W output clears that bar with room to spare. It’s rated to take a 16-inch MacBook Pro to 50% in about 40 minutes, per Anker’s own listing. INIU’s 45W output can keep a laptop from losing ground during light use, but it won’t fast-charge one. The Anker 313’s 15W is a phone-and-earbuds number; plugging a laptop into it barely dents the drain.
Where Each Power Bank Falls Short
Skip the Anker 313 if you need it to double as a tablet or laptop charger. Fifteen watts is a phone number, full stop. Anker’s own listing doesn’t specify a warranty length for this model, which is unusual for the brand. It’s worth asking about before you buy if that matters to you.
Skip the INIU if footprint is the priority over price. At 11.5 ounces for 20,000mAh rated, it’s heavier than the value math above makes it look. That’s because a 45W output needs sturdier internal wiring than a 15W bank does. It also has no display, so there’s no way to check remaining charge without plugging in a phone.
Skip the Anker Prime if you’re only ever charging a phone. Paying $139.99 for a screen and 200 watts of headroom you never use has a cost. It turns a $2.98-per-1,000mAh problem into an $11.29-per-1,000mAh one. That’s for the same delivered capacity as a bank that costs a quarter as much.
Which Power Bank Would I Buy?
Humid outdoor days on the coast have taught me to keep phones and earbuds topped off, not maxed out. So if I were buying tonight for a phone-only bag, it’s the INIU Carry P51L-E2. It delivers the Prime’s usable charge for a quarter of the price. Bring a laptop along and the math changes — the Prime earns its price. The 313 is the only one of the three I’d rule out for anything past a strict emergency-only role.

Notice what those totals include. Not suction specs. Batteries and filters. A cordless vacuum bills you twice: once at checkout, and again in year two or three when the lithium-ion pack fades. Most spec sheets price the first bill and stay quiet about the second.

Why Every Cordless Stick Vacuum Ledger Has a Battery Line
Lithium-ion packs in consumer products are rated for 300 to 500 full discharge/charge cycles by their own manufacturers, per Battery University’s BU-808 lifespan article. A stick vacuum is close to a worst case: you typically run it until the pack quits, and a 100% depth-of-discharge habit sits at the short end of that window, around 300 cycles.
Run the arithmetic. Three full-battery cleaning sessions a week is 156 cycles a year. The 300-to-500-cycle window opens just before year two and closes around year three. Heat shortens it further — the same source’s storage table shows a pack held at full charge loses roughly 20% of capacity in a year at 77°F, and 35% at 104°F. A vacuum docked on its charger in a warm garage is aging even on days nobody vacuums.
So the single-battery machines each carry one replacement pack in my five-year ledger. Not a pessimistic guess. The midpoint of the maker-rated range at ordinary use. The LG carries zero because its two packs split the cycle load — 78 cycles each per year at the same usage — which pushes the same fade window past year four.

Read that table before any suction chart. A vacuum whose battery you can’t buy is a vacuum with an expiration date, whatever the motor is rated for. Ryobi’s answer is structurally the best one: the pack isn’t a vacuum part, it’s a platform currency. Dyson’s answer costs $10 more than Shark’s but came with no stock warning. LG’s answer is “we gave you two” — genuinely useful, and still not a price.
The runtime fine print, read out loud
Every one of these machines advertises a runtime. None of the headline numbers describe vacuuming your floors. The conditions live in footnotes, so here they are, quoted.
Shark’s “up to 70 minutes” for the PowerDetect IP1251 is, per the footnote on Shark’s own product page, “measured at the handvac in ECO mode.” Handvac mode means the wand and the motorized floor nozzle are removed. The 70-minute figure describes a configuration you cannot vacuum a floor with.
LG’s “up to 120 minutes” is honest about being a doubleheader — it’s the sum of both batteries — but the footnote adds “in normal mode without Power Nozzles.” Attach the powered head that carpet requires and the real figure is whatever your floors leave of two 60-minute halves. Dyson claims “60 minutes max run time” and then concedes, in its own caveat, that runtime “will vary based on power mode, dust level, floor type and/or attachments used.” Dyson’s page never states which mode and which tool produce the 60. Four variables in one caveat is the answer.
Ryobi does something stranger: the PBLSV719 product page publishes no runtime figure at all. Independent measurement fills the gap — reviewer Paul Hartman metered the vacuum’s actual draw and got roughly 6 minutes on high, 20 on medium, and 32 on low from the included 4Ah pack. Against the field’s footnoted 60s and 70s, an unpublished spec that measures out to 20 real minutes is arguably the least misleading number in this comparison. It just isn’t a big one.
Verdicts: Which Cordless Stick Vacuum Should You Buy?
RYOBI PBLSV719K: The Five-Year Total
The kit ships with a 4Ah battery and charger at $269.00 on ryobitools.com (list $399.00). The replacement-battery line is the $89.00 PBP004, and the filter line is two $26.97 HEPA two-packs across five years — Ryobi sells them as accessory part A32SV719K2. If you already own ONE+ tools, delete the $89 line entirely and the five-year cost drops to $322.94, or $64.59 a year. Nothing else here comes close.
Skip this if your home is mostly carpet and over about 1,500 square feet. Twenty real minutes on medium is a two-bedroom number, and deep pile wants the high setting Ryobi’s pack feeds for six.
LG A925KSM: Two Batteries Already in the Box
The A925KSM’s whole ownership case is that battery number two is included and quick-release, charging while you clean. At 78 cycles per pack per year the maker-rated fade window doesn’t open until past year four, which is why LG’s ledger carries no battery purchase and no filter purchase — LG’s cyclone and filters are washable. $106.44 a year, second place, no consumable orders to remember.
The unanswered question: LG’s US accessories store lists no purchasable spare pack, so when the included pair does fade, your path is LG parts support, not a product page with a price. Skip this if you plan to own one machine for a decade on retail parts alone.
Shark IP1251: The Five-Year Total
The PowerDetect IP1251 is $449.99 on Shark’s own store, the XBATR640US battery is a published $87.99, and the post-motor HEPA filter is $21.99 — I’ve budgeted two across five years, with the foam and felt pre-filters washed free per Shark’s three-month guidance. Shark also backs the vacuum itself for five years, the longest machine warranty on this page, though the battery’s own coverage is two.
Two demerits, both printed above: the 70-minute claim measured with the floor nozzle off, and the battery page inviting me to get notified when it’s back in stock. A published price you can’t click “buy” on is only half a published price. Skip this if the auto-empty dock is why you’re paying more — that’s the IP3251’s job, a different ledger with a bag subscription on it.
Dyson V15 Detect: The Five-Year Total
Credit first. Dyson runs the most legible spare-parts operation in this group: the $99.99 click-in battery has its own page, swaps by hand, and the filter never appears on the ledger because Dyson’s guidance is a monthly rinse, not a replacement. The consumables story is clean. The problem is the entry fee. Even at the current $649.99 — and dyson.com listed the same machine at $849.99 — the V15 Detect costs $150 a year to own, 82% more per year than the Ryobi, before either machine picks up a gram of dust.
On the ledger’s terms, that makes the Dyson V15 Detect this comparison’s loser. Skip it if you’re cost-first; buy it if the laser head and particle counter are worth a premium the arithmetic can’t defend, and buy the two-year warranty knowing the battery part carries one.

Two of the five stereo receivers and amps compared here say “100 watts” somewhere on the page. One of them backs that up with a single test tone at 1% distortion. The other backs it up with a manual you have to go find. Meanwhile the $599 amp in the group admits to 45 watts, and it’s the most honest spec sheet of the five. Since you’re trusting my math over their marketing, let’s start with the verdict and then take the fine print apart.
For most living rooms, the WiiM Amp is the box to buy: $299, rated 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and when Stereophile put it on the bench it cleared 66 watts with both channels driven — one of the only claims here that got stronger under independent testing. If a turntable is in the picture, the Sony STR-DH190 covers phono, FM, and two speaker pairs for about $200, and the Denon PMA-600NE is the upgrade with the cleanest rating in the group. The one to skip is the Cambridge Audio AXR100: $699 for a “100 watts per channel” headline whose test conditions its US listing never states.
I’ve moved enough stereo gear between small apartments and humid coastal rentals. A spec sheet number rarely survives contact with a real room. What matters on a Tuesday night is how loud the amp gets before it strains. It’s not the biggest number printed on the box.
What Rule Are Stereo Receiver Wattage Claims Dodging?
Wattage inflation is not a new scam. It’s such an old scam that the federal government wrote a rule about it in 1974. The FTC’s Amplifier Rule — 16 CFR Part 432, still on the books and substantially amended in 2024 — exists because “100 watts” means nothing until you pin down four things: the speaker load in ohms, the frequency range, the distortion allowed, and whether both channels were working at once.
The rule’s test regime is blunt. An 8-ohm load. The full audible band, 20 Hz to 20 kHz. No more than 1% distortion at any power level up to the rated figure. All channels driven simultaneously. And before any of that, an hour of warm-up at one-eighth power, so a company can’t quote a number the amp can only hit cold. The FTC’s June 2024 amendments tightened the testing methods and extended the rule’s reach; the industry pushed back hard enough that Audioholics filed a petition over how far it now stretches. Whether any given spec sheet below satisfies the current rule is a question for lawyers. Whether it respects you is a question I can score.

What Do the Honesty Grades Track?
Notice what the grades track. Not power — honesty about power. The Denon publishes the smallest number and earns the top grade because its 45 watts is measured the hard way: full band, both channels, distortion held to 0.07%. Rated under those same conditions, neither “100-watt” receiver has a published figure at all.
Retailers then run the inflation in reverse. Denon disciplines itself to “45W” and B&H’s product title sells the same amp as “90W” — both channels added together — while Adorama’s title calls it “70W,” the 4-ohm number. Companies don’t exactly lie. They just measure things whichever way makes them look best, and then somebody downstream measures again. I wanted to close this section with a price-per-honest-watt ranking. Can’t. Two of the five don’t publish an honest watt to divide by. That gap is the finding.
How Many Watts Does a Stereo Receiver Need on a Tuesday Night?
Here’s the arithmetic the wattage war hopes you never run. Sound & Vision’s Daniel Kumin puts a typical consumer speaker’s sensitivity at about 87 dB from 1 watt, measured at 1 meter, and indoor level falls roughly 4.5 to 6 dB each time the distance doubles. Sit 10 feet back — about 3 meters, or 1.6 doublings — and that first watt lands near 79 dB at the couch. Two speakers carrying the same music add about 3 dB. So call it 82 dB from a single watt per channel.
How Loud Is Too Loud for a Living Room?
For scale: NIOSH’s occupational noise limit is 85 dB averaged over an 8-hour workday — the agency files lawn mowers and power tools at that level, where you have to raise your voice at 3 feet. That is not date-night volume. Getting there from 82 dB takes a 3 dB push, and 3 dB costs a doubling of power. Total bill: 2 watts per channel.

Basis for every cell: 87 dB/W/m speakers, a 3-meter seat costing about 8 dB, a stereo pair adding 3 dB back, and 10 dB of level costing ten times the power in each direction. Real rooms will smudge any cell by a few dB. The shape of the answer won’t move.
Read the bottom row. Even at raise-your-voice loud, the amp is coasting at 2 watts, and only a 20-dB crescendo — rare outside classical and film scores — asks for triple digits. Where the ratings above genuinely matter is that peak column plus insurance: quieter speakers, a bigger room, a subwoofer-less setup asking the mains to carry bass. Headroom is worth paying for. Paying for the difference between a 1-kHz “100 watts” and a full-band 45 is worth understanding first.
Beyond Watts: Which Fork Decides Your Stereo Receiver?
Every amp here can rattle a normal living room. What separates them is plumbing, and three questions settle it.
Fork one: a turntable, now or ever
Sony, Denon, and Cambridge all carry a real moving-magnet phono stage. The Yamaha R-S202 doesn’t, which surprises people who assume all silver boxes with knobs speak vinyl. The WiiM doesn’t either — a turntable needs its own preamp before it touches the WiiM’s line input. If records are even a maybe, that’s $80 to $150 of future adapter you can buy now as a phono jack instead. Fork two: where your music lives
Only the WiiM streams over Wi-Fi — AirPlay 2, Chromecast, the room-to-room stuff — because it’s a streamer that grew an amplifier. The other four offer Bluetooth and stop there. Bluetooth from a phone is fine until the phone leaves the room in someone’s pocket mid-album. If a streaming service is your only source, the WiiM replaces an amp, a streamer, and most of the cable drawer.
Fork three: is the TV invited?
The WiiM has HDMI ARC, so the TV remote runs the volume — the one feature that decides whether a stereo pair replaces a soundbar without daily friction. Denon and Cambridge take the TV by optical cable. The Sony and the Yamaha have no digital input at all; analog RCA only. If TV sound is half the job and you’d rather keep it simple, a soundbar sized to your room is the competing answer. Second-zone people, note the speaker A/B terminals on the Sony, the Yamaha, and the Cambridge — patio wiring, one amp. The Denon has two pairs of binding posts but doesn’t describe A/B switching, so plan around one pair.

$299 buys the amp, the streamer, HDMI ARC, a subwoofer output, and the only power claim here validated by an outside lab — John Atkinson’s bench at Stereophile clocked it at 66 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 129 into 4, both channels driven, right where WiiM said it would be. Skip this if you own records and refuse to add a phono preamp box, or if you want FM and a second speaker pair. It has none of the three.
Denon PMA-600NE — the honest 45 watts

The best-built spec sheet of the five, and by owner and reviewer consensus the best-sounding amp here, with a proper phono stage and optical and coax inputs for the TV. Its 45 full-band watts will out-muscle a fine-print 100 in every way that reaches your couch. Skip this if you need radio — there’s no tuner — or if $599 is the whole budget, because it needs speakers worthy of it.
Sony STR-DH190 — the Budget Utility Player

The most feature-complete cheap receiver on the market: phono, FM, Bluetooth, two switchable speaker pairs, around $200. Its wattage rating is a single-tone number and Sony publishes no full-band figure, which costs it the grade — not the recommendation, since 200 dollars was never buying 100 honest watts anyway. Skip this if the TV matters; with no digital input, it’s a music machine.
Yamaha R-S202 — fine amp, backwards spec sheet

The irony pick. Yamaha built a genuinely honest rating — 100 watts per channel, 40 Hz to 20 kHz, 0.2% distortion — then printed the manual with it and led the product page with 140 watts at 10% THD, a number no listening human could use. Cheapest of the five and often under $150 on sale. Skip this if you have a turntable (no phono) or a TV to connect (no digital input). It’s a Bluetooth-and-FM machine with real muscle.
Cambridge Audio AXR100 — Priced on Faith

My named loser, and the price is the reason. The hardware is genuinely nice — phono, optical and coax, speaker A/B, a subwoofer out with a proper crossover. But at $699, more than the WiiM and the Sony combined, “100 watts per channel (8 ohms)” with no distortion or bandwidth conditions on the listing is not good enough paperwork. Skip this unless it’s deeply discounted and the A/B-plus-phono-plus-optical combination is exactly your checklist; nothing else here offers all three.
No tie to break this time. The WiiM wins most living rooms on fit, the Denon wins on fidelity and the group’s only clean rating, and they’re separated by $300 and a phono jack. Disagree with a grade? The full rating lines are all in the table. Re-run them.
The Receipts Behind These Stereo Receiver Numbers
Wattage ratings and features come from the current US product pages, spec sheets, and owner’s manuals of Sony, Yamaha, Denon, Cambridge Audio, and WiiM, all loaded August 27, 2026, and cross-checked against retailer listings for price and stock only. The watts-needed table is my arithmetic from Sound & Vision’s published sensitivity and distance-loss figures, with the basis shown under the table, and the 85 dB reference level is NIOSH’s. What I could not verify anywhere: a full-band power figure for the Sony or the Cambridge under stated distortion (if either exists, neither company’s published materials surface it), and whether Sony’s rating drives both channels at once. One last number. The gap between the cheapest amp here and the priciest is about $520. The gap between what either draws on a normal evening and what its box advertises is about 98 watts. Buy for the jacks, keep the fine print.

The Samsonite Freeform Carry-On Spinner delivers about 48.7 liters of packing space for its current price of $129.99. That’s roughly $2.67 per liter of capacity. The Away The Carry-On runs $6.71 per liter, and the Monos Carry-On Pro runs $8.19 per liter. If packing space per dollar is your deciding factor, the Freeform wins by a wide margin over both. It isn’t the sturdiest of the three, though. Independent testing found its zipper let water reach the interior. Its polypropylene shell also scratches more easily than the Away or Monos hardshells. So frequent flyers may still prefer one of the pricier two.
I’ve packed a carry-on for enough beach trips and island flights to know one thing. Liters on a spec sheet rarely match what a suitcase actually swallows. A zipper that strains at the last shirt matters more on travel day than any number printed on a box.

Price: What Each Carry-On Costs Right Now
Away’s own product page currently lists The Carry-On at $275. Monos’ own product page lists the Carry-On Pro at $295. That’s a $20 gap that the two brands treat as roughly equivalent positioning. Samsonite’s own site lists the Freeform Carry-On Spinner at a sale price of $129.99, marked down from a $219.99 list price. That’s more than $145 cheaper than Away even before any liter-of-capacity math enters the picture.

That sale-versus-list gap matters for the value math below. Even at Samsonite’s full $219.99 list price, the Freeform still works out to $4.52 per liter. It’s still cheaper than Away and Monos either way, just by a smaller margin than the sale price shows.
Carry-On Capacity Per Dollar: How Many Liters You’re Really Buying
Away states The Carry-On holds 41 liters on its own product page. Monos states the Carry-On Pro holds 36 liters on its own product page, a number Forbes Vetted’s product listing independently repeats. Samsonite does not publish a liter figure for the Freeform Carry-On Spinner on its product page. So we computed one ourselves. At 20.5 x 14.5 x 10 inches of interior space, that’s 2,972.5 cubic inches. That converts to 48.7 liters using the standard 0.0163871-liters-per-cubic-inch conversion.
Interior liters, not exterior inches, are what actually decide how much fits inside —
Here’s one honest caveat. Independent capacity testing from the carry-on review site Pack Hacker measured Away’s real interior volume at 39.8 liters. That’s about 11% below the 41-liter figure on Away’s own product page. Manufacturer-stated liters and independently measured liters don’t always match, on any brand. That’s exactly why this comparison names its source for every number rather than presenting one figure as unquestionable.
Size and Weight: The Real Dimensions Matrix
Liters per dollar only matters if the suitcase actually fits in the overhead bin. So here are the real, manufacturer-published exterior and interior dimensions side by side. They also show how each stacks up against IATA’s cabin-baggage sizing guidance.

IATA’s current cabin-baggage guidance recommends an optimal size of roughly 55 x 35 x 20 cm. That’s about 21.7 x 13.8 x 7.9 inches. It’s a size that clears the large majority of the world’s aircraft bins. None of the three suitcases here actually meets that narrower guideline on depth. All three run 9 to 10 inches deep. That’s standard for the roughly 22 x 14 x 9-inch allowance most major U.S. carriers still enforce. Samsonite’s Freeform is the largest exterior footprint of the three by a full inch on every dimension. That’s a meaningful part of why it holds more.
Is the Cheap Carry-On Worth It on Capacity Per Dollar?
The Samsonite Freeform’s capacity-per-dollar win comes with a real tradeoff, not a hidden one. Independent testing from Outdoor Gear Lab reviewer Jason Wanlass found that the Freeform’s zipper — not its polypropylene shell — is where water actually gets in, with nearly a third of the interior absorbing moisture during a submersion test, and that the lighter polypropylene shell “scratches very easily” compared to the polycarbonate shells Away and Monos both use.
Wheel and zipper wear are the two failure points that show up first on suitcases that fly often —
Outdoor Gear Lab’s own verdict is that the Freeform earns a “Best Buy” designation for value but suits “leisure travelers” taking “a handful of trips per year” rather than frequent business travel — an honest, source-named caveat worth weighing against its price advantage. On the warranty side, Away and Monos both advertise lifetime coverage on wheels, handles, and locks, though Forbes Vetted notes Monos charges a $20–$45 return fee that Away does not.
Is Away’s Carry-On Worth More Than Its Capacity Per Dollar?
Away’s suitcases are worth the extra cost mainly for travelers who value name-brand resale recognition and a specific durability track record, not for raw packing capacity, where they place in the middle of this comparison rather than the top. Forbes Vetted senior travel editor Astrid Taran wrote of Away’s larger carry-on that “it features ample packing space while still fitting into most overhead bins, and it has a sturdy zipper that has given me no issues when I’ve packed the bag to the brim” — a direct rebuttal to the kind of zipper failure Outdoor Gear Lab found on the cheaper Samsonite.
At $6.71 per liter, Away sits closer to Monos than to Samsonite on value, which means the case for it has to rest on something other than capacity: build confidence, resale value if you ever sell it secondhand, and simply being the suitcase most airport staff and fellow travelers already recognize.
Monos or Away Carry-On: Which Has Better Capacity Per Dollar?
Monos earns its place over Away mainly for organization and lower brand-collision risk, not for value — at $8.19 per liter it is the most expensive way to buy carry-on space of the three we compared here. Forbes Vetted’s Esther Carlstone wrote that the Carry-On Pro “is surprisingly roomy and can easily fit a week’s worth of clothes. I especially love the exterior pocket for my laptop or iPad… I’ve taken it on dozens of flights and it always fits in the overhead bin.”

REPTI ZOO’s SH129 is the only reptile-marketed unit of the four that states real accuracy figures anywhere: ±0.1°C temperature accuracy and ±5% RH humidity accuracy, across a -4°F to 176°F and 10%-95% RH range, for $19.99 on REPTI ZOO’s own store. That’s genuinely more than Zoo Med or Fluker’s tell you. But checking the identical SKU at two other sellers, Northern Gecko ($24.95 CAD) and Cornel’s World ($20.37), turns up a different number: both list the SH129’s accuracy as ±1°C (±1°F), not ±0.1°C, with the ±5% RH humidity figure matching across all three.
