Omron’s hardware reputation carries it to second despite Avail’s disappearance from the current lineup. Quell scores lowest not because the device stopped working, but because who’s selling it, and under what regulatory status, is now a genuinely open question.

    Quell 2.0 still costs $300 for the standard kit or $350 with Sport strips, worn on the upper calf, still FDA-cleared through the 510(k) pathway as a Class II device. What’s changed is the company. electroCore (Nasdaq: ECOR) completed its acquisition of NeuroMetrix in May 2025; NeuroMetrix now operates as electroCore’s subsidiary, and electroCore’s own executives have talked publicly about leaning on VA hospital distribution channels rather than a purely direct-to-consumer model going forward.

    Alongside that shift, electroCore has pushed a distinct product — “Quell Fibromyalgia” — which its own marketing describes as “the first and only FDA-authorized wearable device that helps to reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia in adults with high pain sensitivity,” authorized under the FDA’s De Novo pathway in May 2022 and sold by prescription only. That’s a different regulatory category from the original OTC Quell 2.0 named above. In a category where the other two brands just changed ownership or channel, that stability is worth naming as its own kind of value.

    Replacement electrode pads run $29.95 for a wireless large-pad refill kit (regularly $39.95) directly from ireliev.com — the one clean, sourced consumable price across all three devices; neither Quell’s nor Omron’s maker publishes a current replacement-pad price we could verify at the time of this update.

    What Would Make Any of These the Wrong Buy?

    • Buying Quell 2.0 assuming NeuroMetrix still runs it independently. It doesn’t. Confirm which entity — NeuroMetrix or electroCore — actually fulfills your order and handles support before you buy.
    • Confusing Quell 2.0 with Quell Fibromyalgia. They’re different products under different regulatory pathways, and one requires a prescription.
    • Assuming Omron Avail is Omron’s current TENS offering. It isn’t on the company’s own current page. If wireless dual-channel operation matters to you, confirm directly with Omron whether Avail is still being manufactured before ordering leftover retailer stock.

    Skip the Omron Avail if you want a device with a confirmed future — buying a model that’s dropped off the maker’s own current page means betting on remaining stock rather than an actively supported product.

    Skip iReliev only if you specifically want TENS alone with no EMS muscle-stimulation function bundled in — its combined system is the one meaningful trade-off against the other two.

    For most people, iReliev is the safer buy right now: same company, same price range, same product, with a published replacement-pad cost and no ownership uncertainty hanging over it. Omron’s name still carries weight if you can confirm Avail is genuinely still supported. Of the three units this page covers, only the Ivation IVFWCC181B is in stock at its own maker today, at $279.99 on ivationproducts.com. NewAir still lists the 23-bottle NWC023SS00 at $299.99, marked sold out. Whynter’s own product page for the dual-zone WC-211DZ now says discontinued, with no price at all. The tally below lands 73, 65, 27 in that order, and the widest gaps come from availability and paperwork, not cooling specs.

    And a matter of public record worth knowing before any of the specs: two of these three companies settled enforcement cases with the California Energy Commission over wine coolers. The details are further down, with the state’s own case pages linked.

    The Vibration-Free Claim Sits on the Wrong Technology

    Claims against the record, row by row. Ivation’s product page says “Vibration-free operation will not disturb sediment” – about a compressor unit. The low-vibration technology in this category is the other one: thermoelectric coolers earn that reputation precisely because they have no compressor, which is how Wine Enthusiast’s explainer draws the line, and how Whynter’s own thermoelectric marketing draws it too. A compressor fridge can fairly claim low vibration. Free is a measurement its page does not offer.

    NewAir’s 43 dB is the only noise number any of these three publishes. It is the maker’s figure; none of the sources read for this update measured it independently. It still counts for something – a company that prints a number can be held to it, and two of these companies print none.

    The capacity counts deserve their own row. Whynter is the only one that says what a bottle is: capacity “based on standard 750 ml Bordeaux style bottles,” with a warning that wider bottles cut the count. NewAir’s 23 and Ivation’s 18 come with no bottle-size basis on their pages. Read every count in this category as a ceiling measured in the skinniest standard bottle.

    The Old Energy Table Is Gone, and Here Is What Replaced It

    None of these three makers publishes a kilowatt-hours-per-year figure or an ENERGY STAR claim on the pages read for this update, so no annual electricity cost is computed here. The rated wattages stand as the only published inputs: 95W for the Ivation, 90W for the NewAir, 140W for the Whynter. A rated wattage is a draw under load, not an annual bill.

    What the public record does say about these makers and efficiency is more concrete. NewAir LLC paid a $285,458 settlement to the California Energy Commission in August 2019, over wine coolers sold from 2015 to 2018 that were not certified to the state’s appliance efficiency database. Whynter LLC paid a $55,000 settlement that October, over wine coolers that “did not meet the efficiency standard and were not certified.” Both cases predate the listings above and name no current model – and both are the reason this page will not fill an energy-disclosure gap with a made-up number.

    Cold and Steady Is the Published Science, With Limits

    UC Davis researchers led by Helene Hopfer found every wine they analyzed aged better held at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, with warmer storage producing the biggest chemical changes. That favors the two compressors here, whose 41-degree floors sit comfortably under that target; the Whynter’s lower zone starts at 50.

    The OENO One review of the vibration research reports one study finding minimal chemical change from 15 days of vibration alone, another finding real changes only at higher intensities, and concludes the risk compounds when vibration combines with temperature swings. Vibration matters at the margin, mostly alongside heat. It is a reason to prefer a stable cooler; it is not a reason to fear a compressor hum.

    The Wine Cooler Left to Buy, and the Two That Are Not

    The Ivation IVFWCC181B is the pick you can act on: $279.99, in stock at its maker, a real compressor with the full 41-to-64-degree range, and a lock. Skip it if a published noise figure or a stated warranty term matters to you before purchase – its page offers neither, and at 18 bottles it is the smallest here.

    The NewAir NWC023SS00 is the better-documented machine: the only noise spec, a 2-year warranty, the best price per slot at $13.04. Skip it for now if you buy from makers directly – newair.com says sold out – and treat a marketplace listing of it as a question to ask, not an answer. If it returns to stock, the tally above reshuffles.

    The Whynter WC-211DZ should leave your shortlist. Dual zones remain a real feature, and thermoelectric quiet is real, but its maker has discontinued it, prints no price, and backs what remains with a 1-year limited warranty. Skip it, full stop; if a second temperature zone is the requirement, start from what Whynter and its competitors currently sell rather than from this retired unit.

Muse’s own comparison page doesn’t publish EEG channel counts or subscription requirements for either current model, so if those specifics matter to you, confirm them directly with Muse before buying.

    Paying for What Used to Be Free: Apollo Neuro’s Subscription Now

    Apollo Neuro’s wrist- or ankle-worn vibration device still works the way it was described previously — curated “vibes” for focus, sleep, relaxation, social ease, energy, or recovery, each with its own intensity and duration pattern. What’s changed is how you buy it. Apollo’s own FAQ page states the membership is required for the device to function, not an optional add-on layered on top of a working standalone unit. The current bundle, “Apollo Wearable + SmartVibes AI Membership,” runs $448 for the device plus one year of the membership it now needs.

    Apollo’s shop doesn’t state what the membership costs to renew after that first year — a gap worth calling out plainly rather than guessing at a number. If you’re comparing Apollo against Muse or Sensate on price, $448 is the honest year-one figure, and the ongoing cost past year one is something Apollo’s own site doesn’t publish where we could find it.

    Checking a Claim Against Its Own Supporting Page: Sensate 2’s Evidence

    Sensate 2 ($299) is unchanged in how it works: a smooth device worn on a necklace against the sternum, delivering infrasonic vibration the company describes as reaching the vagus nerve through bone conduction, paired with soundscapes in its app. What hasn’t held up under a closer look is the specific number on its product page. Sensate’s own product page states a “48% decrease in stress levels” and “60 extra minutes of sleep per night” from “our pilot study” — but Sensate’s dedicated research page, the one place you’d expect that study documented, cites different figures entirely: sleep increased “more than an hour” and time to fall asleep “decreased by 30 min,” attributed to an unnamed “Maastricht Study” PDF with no listed author, journal, or sample size.

    Neither figure is necessarily false. But a company citing two different sets of numbers for what appears to be the same or a related study, on two different pages of its own site, is a gap worth naming rather than repeating either number as settled fact.

    None of that makes Lomi 3 or the FoodCycler FC-50 pointless.     Withings ScanWatch 2 wins this hybrid smartwatch comparison: a 35-day battery rating, an FDA-cleared ECG feature, and — at its current $299.95 sale price — the second-cheapest rated day of battery on the page at $8.57. Garmin Instinct Crossover Solar is the pick for outdoor abuse and the only watch here with its own GPS antenna; its battery price falls from $17.86 to $7.14 a rated day if, and only if, you give it three hours of bright sun daily. Garmin vivomove Trend is the named loser: $269.99 for a 5-day rating works out to $54.00 per rated day, more than six times the Withings sale-price figure, and its GPS lives in your pocket.

    Two Brands Are Left Standing in Hybrid Smartwatches

    Fossil, the category’s old volume seller, said in January 2024 it was leaving the smartwatch business altogether, a wind-down covered by Android Central at the time. What remains is Withings, selling health sensing in an analog case, and Garmin, selling two opposite hybrids: a dress watch with a hidden screen and a fiber-polymer tool for people who are hard on tools. They barely compete with each other. The prices per rated day of battery make that plain.

    Two things fall out of that table. First, the cheapest watch is the most expensive battery: the vivomove Trend’s $54.00 a rated day is five times the ScanWatch 2’s list-price figure. Second, the Crossover’s position is conditional — sunlight moves it from fourth place to first. That clause gets its own section below, because Garmin prints it and buyers skip it.

    Garmin’s Instinct Crossover owner’s manual rates smartwatch mode at “up to 28 days/70 days with solar,” and its footnote defines the solar half: “All-day wear with 3 hr./day outside in 50,000 lux conditions.” Fifty thousand lux is open-daylight brightness — a desk by a window does not qualify. The manual’s battery-saver row goes further and prints “up to 71 days/unlimited with solar,” an actual infinity with a weather clause attached.

    None of that is hidden; it is in the manual, stated cleanly. But the difference between a $7.14 rated day and a $17.86 one is three hours of bright sky, daily, every day. Office workers should price the Crossover at 28 days. Trail crews, farmers, and lifeguards can take the 70.

    One of These Three Owns Its GPS Antenna

    The Crossover carries real built-in GPS — 25 hours rated, 31 with solar, per its manual. The other two borrow. Garmin’s own vivomove Trend announcement says the watch “will even connect to a compatible smartphone’s GPS” for outdoor tracking, and Android Central’s review is blunter: no built-in GPS at all, phone required, app open. Withings’ own support page for ScanWatch 2 GPS tracking describes the same arrangement — it works “when running with your smartphone” and requires the phone’s location settings on.
