The best healthy meal delivery for most people is CookUnity, with fresh chef-made dinners at $10.39 to $12.69 a meal, per CookUnity’s own cost page. Daily Harvest is the cheaper way in, with smoothies at $8.49 each, per its FAQ. Splendid Spoon sits between them, at $9.99 for a smoothie and $13.49 for a noodle bowl or dish, per its support pages. I checked all prices in October 2026. All three sell convenience first, so pick on format.

I have been through enough South Florida hurricane seasons to know what a full freezer is worth, and what it is worth once the power goes out. That shapes how I shop this category. Frozen meals only keep while the freezer holds 0°F, per the FDA. Chilled meals have the opposite problem, a short clock. So the first question is where the food will sit, not which menu looks better.

The picks

  • Best overall: CookUnity. Fresh, never frozen, 4 to 16 meals a week, $10.39 to $12.69 a meal plus delivery.
  • Best budget: Daily Harvest. Smoothies at $8.49, flat $9.99 shipping, one-time boxes allowed.
  • Best for frozen soups and noodles: Splendid Spoon. Soups at $12.49, free shipping from 10 items.

How Much Does Healthy Meal Delivery Cost a Month?

Daily Harvest smoothies come out cheapest over four weeks at $515.40, and Splendid Spoon dishes cost the most at $715.44. The table prices one week from each service’s own published prices, then multiplies by four. Delivery fees and volume discounts are in the math. Daily Harvest’s subscriber discount is not, because its FAQ names no amount. Prices come from each maker’s pages, checked in October 2026.

ServiceOne week pricedWeekly cost, with the mathFour-week cost
CookUnity12 meals12 × $10.39 = $124.68 up to 12 × $12.69 = $152.28, plus $9.99 delivery = $134.67 to $162.27$538.68 to $649.08
Splendid Spoon14 items, all smoothies or all dishes14 × $9.99 = $139.86, minus $10 = $129.86; 14 × $13.49 = $188.86, minus $10 = $178.86; shipping free$519.44 to $715.44
Daily Harvest14 smoothies14 × $8.49 = $118.86 up to 14 × $9.49 = $132.86, plus $9.99 shipping = $128.85 to $142.85$515.40 to $571.40

Divide by items and the spread narrows. CookUnity at 12 meals lands at $11.22 to $13.52 each, with delivery folded in. Splendid Spoon smoothies cost $9.28 each ($129.86 ÷ 14), and Daily Harvest smoothies cost $9.20 each ($128.85 ÷ 14). A cup, a soup and a dinner are not the same amount of food. Read these as prices per item. CookUnity’s UnityPass costs $23.99 per 28 days and waives delivery. Four weekly orders at the $9.99 fee cost $39.96, so the pass saves $15.97. At the $11.99 fee it saves $23.97.

CookUnity Healthy Meal Delivery: Fresh Meals From 100 Chefs

CookUnity ships fresh meals that are never frozen, per its meal page. Plans run 4 to 16 meals a week. The site cites 100 professional chefs and more than 300 dishes. Meals arrive chilled with a shelf life of about 3 to 7 days, and the homepage says its chefs advise against freezing them.

A wide, rotating menu across chef partners is CookUnity’s core advantage over single-kitchen competitors.

Price per meal runs $10.39 to $12.69 depending on plan size. Delivery is a flat $9.99 or $11.99, depending on your ZIP code. The filter list is wide: Mediterranean, carnivore, keto, vegan, gluten free and low sodium, plus GLP-1, pescatarian, paleo, low calorie and low carb. The homepage headline says meals are ready in 2 minutes, but the FAQ gives no heating time. Follow the card in the box.

The fee is the catch at small plan sizes. At 4 meals, $9.99 of delivery adds $2.50 to each meal. At 12 meals it adds about $0.83. Skip CookUnity if you only want a couple of meals a week.

Splendid Spoon: Frozen Soups, Noodles and Smoothies

Splendid Spoon sells smoothies, soups, noodles, dishes, oats and shots, and it ships everything frozen. Meals travel with dry ice and recyclable insulation, per its delivery FAQ. You mix categories freely and order 7 to 28 meals a week. Smoothies cost $9.99, soups $12.49, and noodles and dishes $13.49. A five-pack of shots is $21.25.

Shipping is free at 10 units, a $12.99 value per Splendid Spoon. At 14 to 19 units you also get $10 off, which is about one smoothie. At 20 to 24 units it is $25 off, and at 25 to 28 units it is $40 off. Deliveries repeat on a 1-to-4-week schedule. You can skip or cancel before your next charge date.

The freezer is the real cost here. A week of 14 items needs room, and the food only keeps while the freezer stays cold. Skip Splendid Spoon if you want a hot dinner every night.

Daily Harvest: Smoothies and Bundles That Ship Frozen

Daily Harvest ships flash-frozen food, per its homepage. Smoothies cost $8.49 and protein smoothies $9.49, per its FAQ. Other items are priced on each item’s page. Shipping is a flat $9.99, and boxes usually arrive in 2 to 4 days. You can subscribe for a recurring discount or order one time. A frozen-only checkout needs at least 6 items.

Daily Harvest’s cups require a short blend, microwave, or bake step — more hands-on than a fully ready-to-eat meal, but still fast.

The menu is plant-based. Its FAQ says all the food is dairy-free and gluten-free, and most recipes are soy-free. That same FAQ warns that the food is made in a facility that also processes dairy, nuts, soy and gluten. Anyone with a serious allergy should read that line twice.

One safety note. The FDA’s notice says Daily Harvest recalled its French Lentil + Leek Crumbles on June 23, 2022, after reports of gastrointestinal illness. The FDA recall notice says the recall is complete and terminated. Skip Daily Harvest if you need a full hot dinner from a cup.

How Much Prep Does Healthy Meal Delivery Need?

CookUnity needs the least. Every meal comes with chef heating instructions, per its cost page. The frozen services add a step. Daily Harvest tells you to loosen a smoothie in the cup, add your own liquid, blend, then pour it back and drink it, per its FAQ.

Other Daily Harvest formats take a few minutes. Protein oat bowls need 1/2 cup of milk and 1 minute in an 1100-watt microwave, plus up to 1 more. Pasta takes 6 to 8 minutes on the stovetop, or 3 minutes in the microwave, a stir, and 2 to 3 more. The FAQ says to cook it to 165°F inside.

Splendid Spoon says its smoothies are made in small batches and high pressure processed, a cold method that uses pressure instead of heat. Its pages do not say whether to blend or thaw them, so follow the cup. Soup goes in the microwave or on the stove, with times printed on the container.

Storage matters as much as prep. Daily Harvest says items keep their peak quality through the best-by date below 0°F. It adds that opening the freezer often lets in warm air and can cause freezer burn. Stack a week of cups where the door rarely swings.

Can You Try Healthy Meal Delivery Without a Subscription?

Yes, with Daily Harvest. Its FAQ says curated boxes can be bought one time or added to a subscription. Subscribers are charged three days before the scheduled delivery, and edits close three days before the estimated delivery day. To skip, open Manage Subscription, choose deliveries to skip, then confirm. Cancel from the bottom of the same page. No minimum duration applies.

Splendid Spoon offers a softer trial. Its FAQ says no commitment is needed, and you can set deliveries two, three or four weeks apart before moving to weekly orders. A reminder email arrives three days before each order deadline. You can skip a delivery or cancel.

CookUnity charges no membership or setup fees, per its cost page, and you pay only for the meals you pick. You can switch plan size at any time, and a higher meal count lowers the price per meal. Its pages I read do not describe skipping or canceling, so check its support center before you order.

What Is the Best Healthy Meal Delivery for One Person?

For one person living alone, the smallest order decides it. CookUnity starts at 4 meals a week, Daily Harvest needs 6 items at a frozen-only checkout, and Splendid Spoon starts at 7. The numbers below use each maker’s published prices and exclude tax.

Six Daily Harvest smoothies come to 6 × $8.49 = $50.94, plus $9.99 shipping, or $60.93. Seven Splendid Spoon smoothies come to 7 × $9.99 = $69.93 before shipping, which is free only from 10 items. Four CookUnity meals cost between 4 × $10.39 = $41.56 and 4 × $12.69 = $50.76, plus $9.99 delivery. That is $51.55 to $60.75. CookUnity does not say which price applies at 4 meals, so the real bill lands somewhere inside that band.

A solo cook also has to finish the food. Chilled CookUnity meals last about 3 to 7 days, so 4 meals fit one week. Frozen cups keep much longer. For one person with an uneven week, frozen is the safer buy.

Which Healthy Meal Delivery Fits Vegan or Low-Sodium Diets?

Splendid Spoon is the simplest vegan answer. Its FAQ says the meals are 100% vegan and gluten-free, made in kitchens that sometimes handle dairy, eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and soy. The company says sensitivities vary and leaves the safety call to you.

Daily Harvest is dairy-free and gluten-free, but not always soy-free. Some recipes contain miso or tamari, and those are labeled on the container and item page. Its FAQ lists no sodium figures, so read each item’s nutrition facts. CookUnity lists vegan, gluten free and low sodium among its diet filters. A filter narrows the menu. It is not a medical guarantee, so ask a dietitian about a restricted diet.

Best Healthy Meal Delivery for Your Week

I pick the format by my freezer and my week, then the brand. Here is the ranking.

  1. CookUnity, best overall. It has the widest menu and a wide filter list. The delivery fee can be beaten with UnityPass.
  2. Daily Harvest, best budget. Smoothies at $8.49 and $9.20 an item at 14 a week.
  3. Splendid Spoon, best frozen range. Soups, noodles and dishes, with free shipping from 10 items.

The Tie-Breaker. No freezer room? Choose CookUnity. No fridge room, or you eat out most nights? Choose a frozen service and order 10 or more items.

Claims Check. CookUnity advertises meals ready in 2 minutes. Its FAQ lists no heating time. Treat the headline as a best case.

Who Should Skip These Services?

Skip all three if you cook for four people. CookUnity tops out at 16 meals a week, which is four dinners for four. Skip them too if you only need one or two meals. The fixed fees outweigh the savings. If you would rather cook with the planning done for you, see our meal kit comparison or our meal planning apps comparison. For a medical diet, talk to a registered dietitian first, as the note at the top says.
