Purple doesn’t sell a mattress topper anymore. Its own support page states it plainly: “We currently don’t sell mattress toppers made of the Purple material.” That leaves two real choices — the Linenspa Gel Memory Foam Topper at $89.99 for 3 inches, and the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt (Supreme) at $249.00 for the same 3 inches, on sale from $349.00. Buy the Linenspa. It’s 36 percent of the Tempur-Adapt’s price at matching thickness, it carries a written 3-year limited warranty and a 30-day return window, and Tempur-Pedic’s own topper page tells you upfront it will not take a return.

Prices are approximate, current as of publication, and change frequently — confirm the latest price with the retailer before buying.

I’ve slept in enough hotel rooms, boat berths and borrowed guest beds over the years to know a topper fixes two problems. One is heat. The other is firmness.

Does Purple still sell a mattress topper?

Purple has a support article titled “Does Purple sell mattress toppers?” and the answer is one sentence: “We currently don’t sell mattress toppers made of the Purple material.” Nothing softens that. There’s no discontinued-notice banner and no successor SKU, because there’s no product page to put one on.

What Purple sells instead is three mattresses — the PurpleFlex, the Purple, and the PurplePlus — each built around a 2-inch GelFlex Grid layer with more than 1,400 open air channels, sitting inside the mattress core rather than on top of an existing one. That’s the technology Purple used to sell as a standalone pad. You can still buy the grid. You have to buy a whole mattress to get it.

Grid-style cooling material, like the layer built into Purple’s mattresses, opens more air channels than a solid foam slab.

What do the makers say about each mattress topper?

Purple’s exit from the topper category is the headline change. Here’s what each maker’s own site states today, spec by spec, as of 31 August 2026.

What do the makers state about price and cooling?

What do they state about returns, certification and safety?

SpecWhat the maker’s own page states, 31 August 2026Note
Return and warranty termsLinenspa publishes a 3-year limited warranty and a 30-day return window; Tempur-Pedic’s topper page states “given the personal nature of this product, we cannot accept returns” and states no warranty termDecision-relevant
Tempur-Pedic topper thickness optionsTempur-Pedic sells two profiles — a 2-inch Cloud Profile and a 3-inch Adapt Profile — and does not publish a queen price for the Cloud Profile on the page that sells the AdaptOne price missing from the maker’s own page
Linenspa: “CertiPUR-US Certified”CertiPUR-US’s own program page states the certification covers chemical content and emissions — no formaldehyde, no phthalates, low VOCs — not comfort, not durability, not lifespanReal credential, narrower scope than the name implies
Fire-safety testing for the topper itself16 CFR Part 1632, the federal cigarette-ignition standard, applies to mattress pads with a full ticking cover; neither Linenspa’s nor Tempur-Pedic’s topper page states whether this testing was performedUnstated on both pages, not necessarily absent

Purple’s exit from the topper category is the biggest fact here: the product is gone, full stop. The return-and-warranty gap between Linenspa and Tempur-Pedic is the other one that actually decides which topper to buy.

How do the two mattress toppers score on five weighted axes?

Five axes, 100 points, one reason per weight. A maker that doesn’t publish the term on its own topper page scores low on that axis — that’s the maker’s choice, not a guess on my part.

How do the return and price axes score?

Return and warranty terms in writing. Heaviest, because a topper is a personal-fit item you can’t fully judge before a night on it, and the two makers handle that risk in opposite ways.3030.0 (3-year limited warranty; 30-day return window, stated on the maker’s own refund-policy page)6.0 (“given the personal nature of this product, we cannot accept returns”; no warranty term found on the topper’s own page)
Price at matching 3-inch thickness. The only fair comparison, since the two makers don’t sell the same thickness ladder.2525.0 ($89.99)9.0 ($249.00; points scaled by Linenspa’s price as a share of it, 36%)

That’s not a close tally, and it shouldn’t read as one. It’s not that the Tempur-Adapt is a bad topper — it’s that Tempur-Pedic discloses almost nothing about it on the page that sells it, while Linenspa puts a warranty term, a return window, and every thickness’s price in writing. Take the price axis out entirely and Linenspa still wins 75.0 to 23.0 on disclosure alone.

A topper this thin is meant to solve one problem — heat or firmness — not rebuild the mattress underneath it.

Which mattress topper should you buy?

At $89.99 for 3 inches of gel-infused memory foam, the Linenspa costs 36 percent of the Tempur-Adapt’s price at the same thickness ($89.99 against $249.00), and it comes with a return window if the feel is wrong for you.

Skip this if you want the deepest, slowest-recovering contour money can buy and heat isn’t a concern; Tempur’s foam formula is real, and no gel infusion fully matches it for pure sink-in cushioning.

The TEMPUR-Adapt (Supreme) still does one thing better than Linenspa: it’s Tempur-Pedic’s own foam, the same material behind their mattress line, and the contour is deeper and slower than gel-infused memory foam manages at any price. What you’re not getting for the extra $159.01 is a return window, a stated warranty, or a gel layer — the base Adapt Profile is exactly the foam formula and nothing more, with cooling sold as a separate, unpriced product.

Skip this if you run warm at night. Tempur’s own page doesn’t claim a cooling feature for this SKU, and dense memory foam sleeps warmer than gel-infused foam or Purple’s old open-grid design, which is no longer for sale in topper form regardless.

Why does the cheaper mattress topper win?

Neither maker is lying about their topper. Tempur-Pedic just isn’t saying much about it, and Linenspa is saying quite a lot. A 3-year warranty and a 30-day return window cost Linenspa nothing to print and cost you real money if the topper you bought turns out wrong. Tempur-Pedic’s page spends its words on the mattress line instead, and the topper reads like an afterthought that happens to share a factory.

If you came here chasing Purple’s old cooling grid specifically, that product is gone and buying a full Purple mattress is the only way back to it. If you’re choosing between materials rather than these two specific toppers, our guide to topper materials by the problem they solve covers memory foam, latex, and down-alternative on their own terms.
